The logic is that a first kitchen goes wrong by accumulating cheap versions of everything and then replacing all of it within five years. These are pieces that do not need replacing: a fully clad pan, a vitrified body, an end-grain board and two properly steeled blades. About $253 separately.

Buying a set is a bet that you want all of it. If two of these pieces are things you already own in a form you like, buy the rest individually — the discount here is real but it is not large enough to justify replacing something that works. Every piece in every set is also sold on its own page.

Why this grouping. Sets are usually assembled from whatever is overstocked. This one is assembled from what a kitchen actually reaches for, which is why there is no piece in it we would not also recommend on its own. The saving is real and it is secondary; the point is that the pieces work together.
