What a kitchen needs before the heat goes on: the small end-grain board, the set of six vitrified prep bowls, the five-kilogram scale, the peeler and paring pair, and the nine-piece stamped measuring set.
It is the least glamorous group in the catalogue and the one that changes a kitchen most, because almost all domestic cooking stress comes from having nowhere to put things and no accurate way to measure them. Bought separately these come to about $175. Oil the board monthly; the rest goes in the dishwasher.
Buying a set is a bet that you want all of it. If two of these pieces are things you already own in a form you like, buy the rest individually — the discount here is real but it is not large enough to justify replacing something that works. Every piece in every set is also sold on its own page.
Why this grouping. Sets are usually assembled from whatever is overstocked. This one is assembled from what a kitchen actually reaches for, which is why there is no piece in it we would not also recommend on its own. The saving is real and it is secondary; the point is that the pieces work together.
